The Anderson Family's 2009 Christmas Tree

Firecrackerkid's Christmas Tree

I think I'll ask Santa for a new camera this year. This is the Anderson's Christmas tree for 2009. I set it in an old crate and added some primitive dollies to keep it company. All of my ornaments are handmade from my efriends, right down to the antique crate.  My one and only Christmas tree, but I think that will change since I see that all my friends have a tree in every room! I love Christmas trees.

National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Gov. Linda Lingle has ordered the Hawaii state flag to be displayed at half-staff Monday, Dec. 7, from sunrise to sunset, in observance of the 68th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. The attack was a major engagement of World War II. It took place before a formal declaration of war by Japan.  Gov. Linda Lingle’s proclamation states “Sixty-eight years ago today, our nation was thrust into a war that would rage across the globe, but ultimately end in victory.” It states further, “The Empire of Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbor steeled America’s resolve and brought out the best in our nation, even in its darkest hour. The United States rallied around the people of Hawaii, who would soon become the 50th state.”

Let us not forget, and honor our Veterans.

Monday's Marketplace Featured Artist Barb King of Prairie Harvest Arts

Today on Monday's Marketplace I am featuring Barb King and her Etsy shoppe Prairie Harvest Arts. Oh, all the wonderful things I could say about this Princess of Primitive that we all already know. Besides being a happy mother of four living on a family farm, raising horses, llamas, goats and sheep, she is another one of our benevolent and generous friends and member of the Old Farmhouse Gathering Group. Prairie Harvest Folk Art and Primitives is located in the heartland of America on a beautiful family farm and strives to bring you the best in primitive handmades and hand painted folk art. That it does too! Barb is also a proud member of the Trinkets 2 Treasures Etsy Team. It is a group of talented artisans who create a variety of handmades in the primitive, folk art, shabby chic, cottage and retro genres. Yes, she can do it all and then some more. Barb has opened another Etsy Shoppe heartlandvintage.etsy.com where she sells Heartland Vintage, fabrics, patterns and what nots. This is a new shoppe opened in the Fall of this year.  Barb makes handmades for every season and she has these Primitives in her shop right now ready for the winter holiday season, along with much much more.

Now here are some questions put to Brenda from the group and she was kind enough to answer them sharing a little more about herself in this lovely interview. Enjoy!

What is the name of your Etsy shop and why did you choose that name?
Prairie Harvest Arts is the name of my Etsy shop as well as my website. I am so lucky to live on a farm and the harvest time is when we see the fruit of our labor. I love seeing the leaves turn color, the scent of autumn in the air and the few quiet moments when you look at the harvested fields, the full pantry and the feeling of accomplishment, knowing that you did the best for your family. SO I live on the prairie and love the harvest and art, thus Prairie Harvest Arts.
How long have you been on Etsy?
I have been a member since February 1, 2008.
What type of items do you offer?
I enjoy offering primitive and Americana folk art, sometimes in a form to what our predecessors created and sometimes with my own interpretation of what they did, appreciated or how they lived.
How long have you been crafting?
I have been sewing and painting since I was a child. We were always encouraged to be creative, play outside or at least “do something.” Sitting around was not part of our way of life.
Who or What inspires you?
I am so lucky. Every generation has been an inspiration to the following members of the family. Great Grandma Amelia came to the US at age 11, in the 1800s, by herself, worked hard and eventually married Julius Kringle (As in Santa Claus). As homesteaders, they worked hard and she was known for her beautiful handwork. She also made the best soap, from what I was told. Her daughter, Alice was superb knitter and did crocheted items we still enjoy. My mom was and is incredible. She encouraged us to create and always to gain new skills. She considered every part of life to be a piece of art that deserved your greatest attention and effort. She’s a od mom and my best friend.
What is your favorite item in your shop and why?
Right now my favorite item is the Pumpkins and Bittersweet. I think it would be considered to be a fabric sculpture. There are three pumpkins with a quilted crow sitting at the top. Bittersweet (which used to grow along the roadside everywhere-but no more) is made from hand painted muslin and beads. There is a great deal of detail on every part of the sculpture.

Wow, I told you Barb was a generous lady. You'll have to grab of cup of your favorite beverage and sit back and browse all of her links to view all her wonderful creations made from the heart.
Thank you much Barb!
